Document 1795Enclosed is the account of Colonel Edward Carrington, Supervisor of Virginia, for commissions on moneys he has disbursed. General Knox has informed Howell that the compensation authorized by his letter was intended for actual disbursements only. Both Knox and Colonel Hamilton agree that some compensation should go to the supervisors for monies paid through their hands to recruiting officers.
