Whereas I, Anthony Wayne Major General Commander in Chief of the Legion & Commissioner [undecipherable: Plenipotentiary] of the United States of America for [undecipherable: Settling] a Permanent [undecipherable: Peace] with all the [undecipherable: late hostile] [undecipherable: tribes] & nations north west [undecipherable: of] the Ohio, have [undecipherable: entered into Preliminary Articles] with the [undecipherable: Wiandots], Chepawas, Ottawas [undecipherable] Sankeys, [undecipherable: Kawanoes], Delawares & [undecipherable: Miamies], for a [undecipherable: Cessation] of Hostilities for the Mutual exchange of Prisoners & for holding a General Treaty for the purpose [undecipherable: of] Establishing a [undecipherable: Permanent] Peace at [undecipherable: this] Place on the 15^th day of [undecipherable: June] next. And Whereas His Excellency Governor William Blount has [undecipherable: Concluded] a Treaty of Peace on the 7^th & 8^th day of November last with Col^o [undecipherable: the] Watts of [undecipherable: Hiwa]- -[undecipherable: ssee], one of the lower Cherokee [undecipherable: towns] and [undecipherable: Coloncula], or the Hanging [undecipherable: Maw], & other Chiefs of the [undecipherable: northern] Nation, at which were present four hundred Cherokee [undecipherable: Warriors] and a number of the Citizens of the South Western Territory — The said General Commander in Chief, have sent this information to the Cherokees & other Indians residing on the Waters of the [undecipherable: Iota]. By Captain Read — In order to warn all & every of the said Indians against committing any Murder, [undecipherable: Theft] or [undecipherable: injury], upon any of the [undecipherable: inhabitants] or Citizens of the United States — but to remain peaceable & quiet, & to bring in all such Prisoners, as they may have in their possession, to this place at the time agreed upon i.e. the 15^th day of June next for holding the General Treaty. — If after this Friendly warning & [undecipherable: Notification] any more Murders, robberies or injury [undecipherable: shall] be committed by the aforesaid Indians residing on the Waters of the [undecipherable: Iota]. — The said General does hereby declare that he will send out his Warriors & destroy them without distinction — as it will not be in his power to distinguish the Innocent from the Guilty.
