Sir,
I inclose you a copy of the instructions given to Mr Maton on [undecipherable] July 1793 for distributing the Pay Ammunition & Rations of Certain [undecipherable] [undecipherable] of Militia of Kentucky for Service in 1791 and [undecipherable] upon those instructions I presume will be found to comport with those you recd from the Secy of War at the time. the balance remaining un applied by Mr Maton was placed in to your care —
I also inclose a Statement Shewing the [undecipherable] the different sums of Pay ammunition & Rations as allowed by me [undecipherable] and [undecipherable] & the amounts disbursed by Mr Maton for those objects, with the balance [undecipherable] recd by you —
A considerable time having elapsed since the advance of this money I am desirous of Closing the transaction, but as [undecipherable] in order that there should exist no cause of Complaint with the claimants I have concluded that it would be proper to let the [strikethrough: matter] business remain in your hand [strikethrough: for payment to be made] untile the first of October next ensuing —
On that day you will be pleased to cease making payments and if any balance remains [strikethrough: to] transmit the same with your Accts [undecipherable] as soon after as possible to this Department for settlement and you will [undecipherable] in the [undecipherable] Gazette for a reasonable time your instructions herein —
You will observe that the advance comprehends the whole amount of rations to which the Officers & Men were entitled. Therefore if any claim for rations supplied remains unsatisfied you will be pleased to discharge the same on [undecipherable] evidence of its validity, with that of those claims of the same kind which were furnished you —
