Communicated by M^r Isaac Williams Jun.^r —— My Dear Children in God, the Wyandots of Sandusky, The bearer will tell you of my being on the way to visit you, and see the State of Religion in your Village, Nothing but the bad weather could hinder my being among you, as I have been Already at your fathers of Detroit. — God knows that I feel great pain in seeing you thus separate and dispersed, and as I love all my Children in Jesus Christ, I particularly love the Wayandots, as they have been allways good [undecipherable] Christians to God, and to his Church; — Your ancient Father, Heraldada the [undecipherable] Quebec has charged me to go and see you all and to give him a faithful account of your [undecipherable]. As he loves you and always wishes to Cherish you in his heart, and as he Cannot come himself, he has purposely sent me to Assemble you in one Village, as the Shepherd Assembles his flocks in one spot to have care of you and to conduct you to Heaven, in the manner your Ancient Fathers conducted your Ancestors in preference to all other Nations. — For this purpose my Children you must come near your Brethren of Detroit, so that I may have a small Cabin to live among you myself until I find a root father who will pass all his lifetime there. My Dear Children how much better would you all be together rather than be thus dispersed as you are. — I have been told & have heard it with the greatest pain, that there is among you, who are neither of your Blood, nor your Nation, and who have different Interests from yours!! Men who seek to turn you from your Duty and your Religion, and who to all Appearance seek your ruin, to [undecipherable] from your Spoils, they make you great fine promises, But they pursue their own Interests, and a fortune which they are desirous of making at your expense, do not listen to them my dear Children. They are Serpents which you Nourish in your breasts & which tear them; Listen to the King your Father, listen to the Governor, and the person placed to conduct you; they love you they dont rob you they dont take forcibly possession of your Lands. They over load you with Riches Not like these Rascals, who get Rich at your expence, and your father in God, [undecipherable] you to [undecipherable] the King your Father— The Governor, and the person [undecipherable] to conduct you. Any other person [undecipherable] to give you Counsel is a Cheat, who looks to his private Interest only and not to yours. — [undecipherable] Mothers of Detroit have promised me, and so have your Brothers the Ottawas, also you will follow their Examples; for to separate your selves from your Brothers, will be your ruin without [undecipherable] I met Kegs of Rum on the road going to your [undecipherable] to intoxicate you, to the end that when you have no more sense you may do foolish things, to separate you from your Brothers, and in consequence ruin you. I was at your Village of Detroit when your envoy Leather Lips, arrived who to my great astonishment said in your Name, that you would not hearken to your Chiefs and your Re^d Councellors who urged of you to come and live with them! What! will you then hearken to Strangers, Men who are not of your Blood nor of your Religion, who all look to their Interests and your ruin rather than your Chiefs and your Brothers, do you not know that your Nation ought to be all Assembled together, to render it respectable as it allways has been, do you not see that these men who wish to engage you to give away your Lands to your Enemies; only looks to have a [undecipherable] Share themselves: dont hearken to them my Children, they are not of your Blood, nor of your Religion nor of your Interest. I have also heard that you have received Letters from the Stranger who is your Enemy, by which he wishes you to renounce the Inheritance of your Father, and Cede your Lands without even Consulting your Father. What then! my Children let him stay at home, if he is honest, if he looks for your good, why does he try to establish himself upon your Lands; Why does he hinder you from Settling whether he establishes a post; — Believe me 'tis fear which makes him talk, and avarice which actuates him; He fears your warriors and he wants your Lands, It is for these reasons he does so much himself; and though those Rascals who talk in his name, to turn you from listening to your Father — If in a word let him agree with your Father, who has your Interest at heart, and will never allow him to cheat you, and who has [undecipherable] in [undecipherable] to surprise you In all other respects what are those people who talk and strive to Separate you from your Brothers, and from your Father, are not these people come from nothing, Men who have no Interest in your Nation, in whom you cannot trust, Men who are too despicable for the thing your Father to entrust with any Employ, and who looks for a place among your Enemies at your Expence. do not hearken to them. As soon as the weather permits I will go among you to Baptize the Children and comfort the [undecipherable] Matrons & [undecipherable] Matrons of whom I request to take care of the young people and to give them good Counsel. — In like manner I Order the young People to hearken to their Superiors — also beg of you my dear Children to send me a Chief, to give an Account of your Village and if you can send me two of your Children to live with me. — they will give me great pleasure — I will have great care of them.
