Sir,
I have now before me an Order in favor of the Honble Mr. Dexter, drawn by Jonathan Bancroft late a Segeant in the late 6. Regt of Massachusets for one Month, April 1793, pay [strikethrough: dol] for Ten dollars which sum with others was [strikethrough: un] unaccounted for by Park Holland late Pay Master to said Regiment on Settlement of his [undecipherable] Account with the late Pay Master General and carried to the Debit of said Holland on his being [undecipherable] books, carried to the personal Acct of the party — the late Pay Mr [undecipherable] a doubt arises with me whether
I can under the Act of Congress of the 12th of Feby 1793 "relative to claims against the United States, not barred by any Act of Limitation, and which have not been adjusted" Act on this claim — there being a Number similarly situated as well as a Number of Officers from whom stoppages were made for accounts unsettled, who may apply. I take the liberty to request your advice & instructions how I am to proceed on those Claims being made.
