War department, Jany 20th 1795
Sir.
Mess.rs Peter Janin and John Francis Rivet, who will wait on you, have been appointed Missionaries from the United States to the Wabash and Illinois Indians, and are preparing to set out on their Journey. The Secretary of War requests that you will please to make an arrangement to furnish these gentlemen with the means of transporting their baggage from hence to Pittsburg. They wish to travel with their baggage, and to be permitted occas[undecipherable] in case of bad weather, to ride in the waggon, to which the Secretary has no objection.
I am Sir,
respectfully,
[Stagg Jun.r]
Samuel Hodgdon Esq.r
