Your favor of the 2d Instant with its inclosures came safely to hand on the 15th. The Impediments which we have met with in the prosecution of the Public business at this Post are now generally removed and those and trust it will be carried on with greater dispatch in future — Three hands have been added to the [undecipherable] since last Month; among which is James Spratt who had formerly been discharged for Intemperance; he is really a valuable hand when Sober, his first contract having expired he came forward again and made most serious Promises of doing better in future if we would take him in, as we
really needed his Services it was thought best to encourage him to do well by raising his wages to Twenty dollars p Month. It appears to have had a good effect on him — Adam Boyer is a [undecipherable: probable reading "proficient"] Smith he is hired at 16 dollars p Mo at present, and his son who is his Helper at 12 dollars — I have in my Possession which I in a month send you anticipated a few days to embrace an opportunity of sending them to you by Mr [undecipherable] a Gentleman of considerable respectability he has promised to take charge of the Money which you shall pay as well on the November Rolls d ultimat d that has not been forwarded as those I now send you To him therefore Sir you will please pay the Money.
