[Addressed to: Joseph Howell Esq^r / Accountant War Departm^t / Philad^a] [Notation: Rec^d Dec^r 6 / 1794 / [undecipherable] for a Schedule / of [undecipherable] known] Salem Mass^th Decem^r 8^th 1794 Sir, In the first of November last, I Mustered the Recruits here, & transmitted Duplicate Muster Rolls to the War Office, — I cannot say if the form of my Muster Rolls be right, as I never have received any Blanks, nor any directions pointing out the Method of making them — On the first of December, I did the Same, & have transmitted Duplicate Rolls. — If pay rolls could be made from them, and some pay transmitted, for the Soldiers, (Some of whom have been inlisted nearly five Months,) it would enable them to Supply themselves with Necessaries & Conveniences, not furnished by the Public — and would be an encouragement for others to enlist and fill up the Corps. — Their Clothing has been received. — I am Sir, your very humble Servant, Frederick Frye Cap^t in y^e Corps of Artillerist & Engineers Joseph Howell Esq^r [Marginalia: The Money &c.
