Samuel Hodgson, Philadelphia] [W[undecipherable] H[undecipherable] [undecipherable]] Lancaster 4^th December 1794 Sir Yesterdays Stage brought a letter from M^r Henry [undecipherable]; [undecipherable] the Brothers of S^r John [undecipherable] [undecipherable] to inform [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] of including my account at Expenditures for expences on [undecipherable] and of [undecipherable] on You for the ballance due me on that account amounting to the Sum of, two hundred Sixty five Pounds nine Shillings & two pence [undecipherable] order in [undecipherable] on you refused payment of alledging that the Vouchers for the payment of Service [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] [undecipherable] and [undecipherable] riding Express together with one for the payment of Twenty Eight pounds ten Shillings paid to Joseph [undecipherable] with [undecipherable], for my letter which attend[undecipherable] my account [undecipherable] mentioned having taken those receipts in a book and that as the book was not marked I took them out and that in doing it [undecipherable] one of the receipts in two [undecipherable] without attending to the returning to the [undecipherable] [undecipherable] and as I did all this with my own hands and folded and enclosed all the Vouchers myself [undecipherable] [undecipherable] been [undecipherable] that the whole of the Vouchers [undecipherable] to that account [undecipherable] given and [undecipherable] [undecipherable] upon re-examining them you will find them. Joseph [undecipherable] was a little intoxicated at the time of signing which caused him to sign [undecipherable] awkwardly and [undecipherable] his name under his Signature in English his man was an assistant to [undecipherable] in bringing a drove of Cattle from Carolina to [undecipherable] home So that [undecipherable] it not in my power to obtain another receipt, and not having been required heretofore to take Duplicates [undecipherable] did not do it on those [undecipherable]: [undecipherable] being however very confident that upon Examination those Vouchers will both be found and [undecipherable] the amount of my order will be instantly paid to M^r Henry [undecipherable] as it is to be applied to the discharge of a Note which I have in Bank and is due which renders the delay Particularly injurious to me with respect to my credit in [undecipherable] Bank, this [undecipherable] the liberty of mentioning to you at the time of receiving and had it not been for this purpose [undecipherable] the money [undecipherable] not Probably have [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] and [undecipherable] I [undecipherable] a order of Payment [undecipherable] have [undecipherable] other means to [undecipherable] [undecipherable] up my Note on [undecipherable] own [undecipherable] be a Stranger to the [undecipherable] the Necessity of a Note when in Bank [undecipherable] Naturally have on a mans [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] when it [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] in you not to [undecipherable] [undecipherable] delay [undecipherable] place, M^r [undecipherable] [undecipherable] however [undecipherable] the [undecipherable] one a favourable footing for a few days, [undecipherable] [undecipherable] before they [undecipherable] you will have found the Vouchers [undecipherable] [undecipherable] from the money and remain.
