It is hereby certified that the within sums of 163 doll
&77 Cts and the sum of sixteen hundred dollars do now
Stand on, the Books of the late Pay Office to
the Credit of John Stagg late Lieut in the Reg. com-
manded by Colo Spencer. Mr Stagg being charged
with sundry sums of money received by him as acting
Pay Master to Col. Malcoms Reg.t The late Commiss-
ioner of Army Accounts agreeably to his instructions
from the Superintendant of Finance withheld those
sums untill Mr Stagg accounted for those charges;
he now having made oath to the expenditure of the
money, and produced a receipt for the Balance being
paid into the hands of his Successor. I am of opinion
that the Act of Congress of the 1st June 1784 will
justify a Settlement of the Same.
