Pike accepted his appointment, it appears he entered the present service on the 19^th March 1794 there is no limitation of service prescribed to the officers of the Army nor is there any obligation by Law for their continuing longer than their own pleasure— but Congress hold the power of disbanding or diminishing the Army at any time when their service is no longer necessary— M^rs.
