[Duplicate] Charleston 11 October 1794 Sir I had the pleasure of writing Several times - but have never been favoured with a line from you - which gives me much Concern - I have now Enclosed you the Returns for the month of August beginning at the 7 day the Troops arrived - and I Received my Appointment - also for the Month of September - also an Account of Jacob Miller [undecipherable] to me by him - but being Comm. to [undecipherable] Lieutentant Com's Directions without any orders from [undecipherable] - I Cannot answer for the Payment until I receive orders - There being no Commissary to Supply Provisions - Wood - Straw - Barrack Utensils - Hospital Stores - I have been much Distressed - and oblidge to Act myself - Which in my Situation is very Inconvenient - Every article is Dearer here than with you - and the Charge for Boat hire and Freight to and from Sullivans Island - is very Extravagant Compared with your [undecipherable] - yet as the Troops are Stationed there - a Early Intercoarse is Necessary - the Provisions sent with the [Drafts?] [undecipherable] very Bad - and was Condemned - The greatest [undecipherable] we wished for them - I was therefore oblighed to get fresh Provisions - and having no money to Purchase them - nor any [undecipherable] where to apply for it - this has been very Distressing to me - the Badness of the Provisions Sent - Caused some Desertion - and the Sickness of the Troops prevented my being as Successfull in Recruiting as I Expected - Had I not got fresh Provisions - a Mutiny would have been the Consequence - I am very [undecipherable] to hear from you Being with Esteem and Respect Sir Your Humble Servant Michall Patterson Majr Joseph Fennell Cap^t of artillest & Eng^r.
