Sir,
This will be handed you by your Attorney Mr James Shirley who having received four hundred and thirty five dollars being due to the Scouts of Nelson County for their services between the 4th of April and 20th July 1792 and seventy nine dollars for pay due a party of Militia commanded by Ensign Luke Dishon for their services between 29th March & 28th May 1792. For the due application of the said monies you are held accountable to be disbursed agreeably to the enclosed Schedule; you will therefore as soon as possible effect the payments and take the receipts which are to be transmitted to me under cover to the Secretary of War — In case a signature is not written it must be witnessed by a Magistrate or some other Official character or by a person of known responsibility —
