[SD R.O October 1794] M^r Coxe has the honor to enclose to the Sec.^y at War a letter this day received from the Supervisor of Maryland. He begs leave to remark, that altho' the duties of the Treas.^y under the 4.^th Sec.^t of the act making alterations in the Treasy & War Departments were formally committed to him in the month of April. The Business relative to the Fortifications and Militia purchases by M^r Gate & other objects have not been transacted thro' this Office, but in a very small degree, but have been generally pursued by the Sec.^y of the Treas.^y in a manner not communicated to M^r Coxe. It is understood on inquiry that there are only 25 Dollars of the money appropriated to the above mentioned fortifications unexpended. Of this M^r Gate advised from this Office? . . .
