[T D R O September 30th 1794]
Sir,
I received this day after the departure of the Secy of the Treasy a letter desiring me to attend to the forwarding of supplies for the militia army till the arrival of the Secy at War. I had not an opportunity to see the Secy before he went, or I would have requested this service to be committed to some other person. Either that, or the duties of contracts & purchases the ordinary & extraordinary business of the Revenue; or other duties of my Office must suffer. You will however consider me as ready to do every thing in my power to expedite the assigned Duty.
Permit me to ask your greatest attention & exertions to fulfill the requests of the Secy of the Treasury in his letter to you of the 29 inst I should be much obliged to you for a minute made up this evening of what you have forwarded since your last statement to the Secy, or what you will certainly dispatch tomorrow; also the destination. If any obstructions occur be pleased to inform me, that I may exert my self with you to remove them.
