Sir, [Benj: 37. 46/100 kild 19 Oct: 90 Jon: 38. 67/100 d° 21 May 89 -] The person who will present you this, is M^r Runyan, a very poor man of our town, and the reputed father of Jonathan & Benjamin Runyan, who were in Gen^l Harmar's Regiment Killed in the years 1790 and 1791 I believe — He is now with you to endeavour to get what pay might be due them at their decease, & I believe him to be the lawful heir, for I don't learn on enquiry that either of them has left either wife or child. — Your known goodness and humanity I am sensible will sufficiently induce you to give him every assistance & direction necessary for him in the pursuit of obtaining what may appear trifling in opinion of some, but to him and his family a very bountiful & charitable supply — with my respects to your family & Gentlemen of the Office, I have the honor to subscribe myself Your most obedient and very Humble Servant Joseph Howell Esq^r Philad^a E Beatty
