Letter to the Secretary at War Regarding Sheds and Cost Saving
Document 1794Pennock writes Knox to discuss the safety and arrangement of sheds. A Mr. Young, who holds the property of Mr. Morris, feels that adding chimneys to sheds would be dangerous. However, putting the shed houses (?) on the public lot would provide a considerable saving in brick work, and a decision on this has been requested of Knox.

Sir Norfolk Sept. 9th 1794
Mr Young who has the property of Mr Morris in care thinks it dangerous having Chimnies to the Sheds & has wrote him for further Instructions. I have Consulted a Carpenter who is of Opinion there will be no great difference in the Expence having the Sheg Houses on the Public Lott as the Pailing makes one side and from the difference in Situation there will be a Considerable Saving in the Brick Work I am told Mr Morris expects to receive $500 for the Sheds [undecipherable] if this is the Case there can be no doubt but we had better have the Accomodation on our Own Land I shall be oblig'd by as early information as possible that the Work may go on We are this day hauling up the Logs for the Foundation Every thing is in Motion Capt. Dale can describe the different Situations &c
