West Point, Sept 5^th 1794 Sir, I enclose a receipt from Serjeant Rowland belonging to The recruits. He was on a furlough in New York when The recruits left this garrison. Had he been here he could not have went with Them, as he had lately gotten a bad sore in one of his Legs. He requests you will be so good as to send ten dollars of his pay to The Officer under whose command The recruits may be at Trenton, for The undermentioned men i.e. Corp'l Samuel Slock 19/ Joseph Richardson 24/ & Samuel Tyler 16/. He says Corp'l Dudley Day owes him 6/ which he wants said Day to pay to Samuel Tyler in addition to The 16/ he requests you to send. The poor fellows, having by industry earned this money, I intreat This [undecipherable] upon you out of compassion for them. When Serjeant Rowland went to New York, These men sent this money by him to purchase Them shirts & other clothing if he had not an opportunity to deliver to [undecipherable] their articles. Serg't Rowland requests you will send the remainder of his Three months pay to me for him. By The next post I will send you receipts from Cyrus Dunkey, David Anderson & W^m. Senny, late of The recruits for Their April, May & June pay; as They have been transferred to The ordnance establishment, which was a necessary transfer for the security of The public property. My last letter was dated The 21^st ultimo. The money I requested to be sent to me for contingent expenses I have not a doubt is deposited with Col^o. Fish.
