The money that you sent I Receive and have inclos the receipt. The pay Book wich I Received by M^r. [undecipherable] Containes some [undecipherable: probable reading "Matters"] a Capt recivs at the Rate of Five Dollars per Month in the pay Roll they are allowed but four there is pay also due to Ensign Martin as [undecipherable: probable reading "Augt"] for april and part of the Month of May he having been paid by Major Butler his pay to the 20 of March 1794 he is Mustered in my first Muster Roll I have Examined Alex. Stevenson of Capt Sloughs Company and he Tells me the last pay he recived was in June 1792 from Lieut Thompson at Lancaster wich will appear by Reffernce to his Muster & pay Roll you seem to doubt of his Name Call him Kennedy the Name are not much alike and as Alex Kennedy [undecipherable] belongs to Capt Springstons Compy and marched from this Post with Ensign M^cKlaine Detachment in May last it is not [undecipherable: probable reading "possible"] that this is the Man — My Recruits are bad off for fuel and Clothing I have not one Stick of wood for the men No Cook their Provision and of Course must Suffer Sir please to inform me how I am to git those articles I am D^r Sir with respect your obedient humble Servant Richd Sparks Capt Major Stagg qu^e.
