Philadelphia Aug 27. 1791 S^ir Enclosed are duplicates of two letters which went by the last Post. I have since received your letter to me of the 10^th, and I have said one to the War Office which came by the last Post; but what having been sent to the President, I have not now before me. If there should be any thing in it requiring an answer more than I have said in mine of the 25^th it may say in this — the next post will convey it. You are informed that an order has been sent to Col. Carrington upon the Storekeeper of our Magazine at New London for whatever he may have. Among the articles which will go from hence to Winchester will be a complete Set of accoutrements for the cavalry which is required from Virginia. But as you say nothing about the number you may want for the infantry, I am not sure you may judge whether those at New London will one left to suffice. I shall expect to hear from you on this. If that respect to hear from you by the last, they do not. There were 1500 heads by the last return. I hereby authorize you to purchase on behalf of the States the necessary land for the fortifications going on; I do so, the cost do not exceed the thousand dollars — which as the sum referred by the Secretary at War — [De necessary information of the purchase — sent comes the money through the Estate of Norfolk] please femble, but if we mean to do what is any more referrable our arrangements with the greatest reason With great respect & attachment I have the honor to be Sir Y^r Gentleman Your obed^t Serv^t [August 27^th 1791 from Henry Lee Esqr.
