New York Aug^t 26^th 1794 Samuel Hodgdon Esq^r Sir On the 21^st Inst. arrived here from West Point Thirty six boxes of musket Cartridges addressed to Cap^t C. R. Sedam who had a few days before gone on to Brunswick to attend to forwarding The Twenty five pieces Cannon from Springfield — Amboy Stage boat was then here, about to sail, the Cartridges were in the hold of a sloop whose deck was filled with wood, but learning that they could not be forwarded from Amboy under several days unless they were sent on by the Boats then here, we caused an Exertion to be made & discharged the sloop of the wood so as to get the Cartridge out & had them put on board the stage boat the master of which promised that they should go by the next morning from Amboy. in which case they must have come to hand before this — Indeed we have the Boatmans Receipt — We are Your Ob^t Ser^ts Manning Wychoffs --- [Rec^d] New York August 21, 1794 from Manning Wychoffs on board the Amboy Stage Boat Thirty Six Boxes of Ammunition which I Promise [to convey to] Samuel Hodgdon Esq^r at Philadelphia [underline: 36 Boxes] Jacob [Thyen?] M^r T[undecipherable]
