Disruptions from the Whiskey Rebellion
Document 1794Secretary Hamilton writes the President with concerns of sending sums of money for two months of pay to the troops under General Charles Scott, in light of the ongoing Whiskey Rebellion. Not only may the money be lost, but it may also give pecuniary aid to the rebels. Although the money consists of bank notes, and not specie, they still may be put into circulation, which presents new problems.
