[Communication from Captain [undecipherable] = August 18, 1796] August 15,^th 1796 Sir I do the more willingly address myself to you to submit the augmentation of my Pay, as you are enabled from your extensive acquaintance with the kind of business in which I am engaged to Judge of the Fatigue, trouble, expence and risque to which I am exposed in the Prosecution of it, and whether a Sallary of something less than Thirty Six Dollars a Month without any aid or perquisite whatever besides, is adequate to the Services to be Performed. I would not be prolix and shall therefore but end shut off I am at all anxious to my own feelings It is not my wish to have more than a moderate means subject, a Way professing clientale to his Ingene the trouble and expences attending the bringing, and in cause duly submit to your Judgement to determine what that shall be.
