[46.] [His Excellency the Gov. of New Hampshire —] Sir, War department July 29^th [1794?] I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Excellency's letter of the [undecipherable] instant. In consequence of your recommendation I have appointed Colonel James Hacket to be Constructor of the Frigate to be built at Portsmouth and have notified him of the said appointment. I have the honor to be &— [Col. James Hacket] Sir, War dep^t July 29 1794 His Excellency Governor Gilman having recommended you as a proper person to construct the Frigate to be built at [Ports]mouth you are accordingly appointed to the said office provided you agree to devote yourself exclusively to that object which is too important to admit of any interference with others and the for the liberal allowance of two thousand dollars per [annum?] is [offered?] Presuming upon your acceptance I enclose you instructions for your government.
