Sir
I have received your letter of
11th Inst inclosing your accounts and vouchers to that date. I am pleased with the general regularity thereof. I would however propose that in stating your account of disbursements you mention the purpuse of each payment; if the voucher contains various things, the principal objects need only be mentioned; if you leave out the words "as per his account and receipt", which is implied by affixing a number of reference to the vouchers, you would then have sufficient room without increasing the writing. The vouchers by this transmission are not yet examined — I inclose you some remarks on your accounts previously transmitted — The Secretary of War has directed a remittance to you through the hands of Nicholas Fish Esq.r Supervisor of Four thousand dollars being on account of the incidental expences of the Ordnance Department for which you are to accept to be accountable.
