Hodgdon It is my judgment that the above mention'd account ought to be allowed, Mr Hodgdon having been promis'd a compensation for his services both by the Secretary of the Treasury and myself — The extent and importance of the public business he has perform'd entitles him in my opinion to the sum claimed, all however beyond the sum annually appropriated for the object of the keeper of the Stores in Phila. D^a. for the time I specified must be paid out of the contingencies of the War Department — He is to be reminded that on May 24. 1793. Mr Hodgdon had advanc'd him an amount one thousand eight hundred & thirty one doll^s 86 [undecipherable] which he observes has been expended for public objects, as will appear by a certificate from the Treasury.
