[Pittsburgh 10 July 1794 [strikethrough: letter] from Major Craig] [an: Aug 2] Pittsburgh 13^th July 1794 Sir, I have Received your Letter of the 7^th Instant with its Enclosures — The boat for the Revenue Office at Wheeling was furnished immediately on Receipt of your Order — I believe the Whiskey has been Received at this Post and forwarded, agreable to the Secretary of the Treasury's Instructions [strikethrough: a Statement of that] that buisness will appear in the Quarterly Return by next Post The Inclosed Requisition of Medicines is made by Doctor M'Crea, for the Garrison of Fort Franklin — About day break in the morning of the 15 Instant a Number of Armed Men Attacked General Neville's House, he himself only defending it, he however dispersed the party having wounded five or Seven, One of whom it is said Mortally — And Yesterday a large Number of Armed Men amounting it is said to Seven hundred Assembled & Attacked his house, defended only by himself Major Kirkpatrick and ten Soldiers, during the attack General Neville finding it impossible to defend the House against Such Numbers, took an Opportunity of escaping and Concealing himself in a Thicket, Major Kirkpatrick continued to defended the House, till One of his men was Killed and four Wounded — having killed two and Wounded Several of the Insurgents, as soon as the Major furnished the Enemy got fire to the House, which is consumed to ashes, it all the Property it Contained, not a Single Article Saved, only the Clothing the Family had, when escaped during the attack, previous to burning the House they had Set fire to the Barn Stable, Kitchen & Granary, which were also Consumed with their Contents, amongst which were Several Valuable Horses and a large Quantity of Grain — Major Senor Cole Neville, Myself & two others in Attempting to get into the House with a Supply of Ammunition, were made Prisoners, dis-armed & Confined, till the Action was Over, and then Carried Several Miles to their Rendezvous, treating Major Lenox with the Utmost Indignity, and all of Us with Insult all the night, I was happy enough to make my escape, and to find General Neville & to Escort him to my House, were he now is, — I have not yet Slept from my Return and feel very Unwell — I am Sir, your Most Obedt.
