[Auditor of the Treasury] [No.] 39 War dep^t July 14^th 1794 I request that you would please to have placed in the hands of the Naval agents, who have definitively accepted of their appointments certain sums of money with which to commence their operations — towit: Jeremiah Yellot — Baltimore Gurney & Smith — Philadelphia John Flagge — — — New York Henry Jackson — — Boston You will be better able to form a judgement of the sum than I can, as you will decide upon the articles which are to be obtained by them — I shall transmit the instructions mentioned to you to them and inform them for further directions relatively to articles that they will apply to the Commissioners of the Manner — I am &c [Enoch Gore Esq^r] Sir, War dep^t July 14 — 1794. I have the honor to inform you that I have appointed in addition to my former communications, as Naval agents, to wit: William Pennock — Norfolk Gurney & Smith — Philadelphia John Langdon — Portsmouth Gurney and Smith have accepted definitively. M^r Pennock and M^r Langdon will probably communicate their final answer during the course of this week — I am — [Cap^t Jeremiah Yellot] Sir, War depart^mt July 16. 1794 I have the honor to enclose you general instructions for your government as Naval agent. The Secretary of the Treasury will furnish you with money & instructions for the purchase of certain articles — I request to know whether a Master builder may be obtained at Baltimore of sufficient skill for the execution of the proposed frigate and so as to be exclusively appropriated to that object, at a per annum Salary not less than fourteen hundred nor more than two thousand dollars per year, and also the price at which Gurney's own Shipbuilder and Blacksmith might be obtained, &c — General and particular instructions will also be transmitted to the Commissioners, Master builder & clerk of the yard —
