Sir, In your letter of yesterday accompanying the two models of Cannon ball, it is observed that in the dimensions transmitted to the Secretary of the Treasury on the 6 of May, by some error of the 68) the Copying Clerk the diameter of he calibers of the 24 pounders is stated at five inches and eight hundredth parts, and that it ought to have been five inches & eighty two hundredth parts such error [illegible] not appear either in the original transmitted to this office or in my printed notes circulated among the iron founders The 24 lb Caliber is stated in the former and of course in my printed notes to be five inches and Eighty three hundredth parts. You will be pleased to inform me whether you consider it to be necessary to notice this difference to Mr. Hawkes who alone has yet executed a Contract for iron Cannon.
