I have written to M^r De Saupure to stimulate him in his procurement of labor and materials for M^r Merklie I transmit by this post through M^r Daniel Stevens the Sums you request only increasing that for you to four hundred Dollars, for M^r Storff to two hundred dollars, and for M^r Merklie to two hundred dollars. The distance at which we are induces me to request that for all the objects to be executed in South Carolina you place yourself according to the original intentions under the orders of the Governor. The Sums to be expended at St. Marys must not exceed One thousand four hundred & twenty three Doll^rs 81 Cent and at George Town the same Sum —— An additional sum of five thousand dollars to that originally mentioned to you of eleven thousand two hundred and twelve dollars and thirty two Cents may be expended at Charleston so that the whole may amount to Sixteen thousand two hundred and twelve dollars and thirty two Cents.
