Dear Sir, Philadelphia June 8, 1794 Your Letter of the 25^th ultimo is before me — I declare to you I know of no specific appropriation made to discharge your drafts. However, all calls in the Quarter Masters department will be discharged on requisition from the general, from appropriations by Congress, and to it I shall on all occasions resort — All the Quarter Master General's requisitions while present have been attended to, and it only remains to receive and remit fifteen thousand dollars in addition to a small balance in a former estimate to compleat his requests up to the first of July — and both these sums you will perceive by perusing the enclosed Copy of a Letter from him to me, are to be forwarded as soon as received I mention these circumstances as an evidence that there is no misunderstanding on my side, but that the [undecipherable] comply with the strict letter of my order — I do not however conceive there will be any difficulty in obtaining Money for the support of the department, and therefore under his directions I wish you to continue your requisitions — but as seldom as possible by drafts, so made the Secretary of the Treasury has not approved — when they are indispensible made the payment as distant from sight as possible — The Horse you sent by M^r.
