[Hon^ble Major General Knox — Secretary at War Philadelphia] Boston June 4. 1794 You will perhaps recollect a line I had the honor to forward to you at the time the last Federal Troops were rais'd (Likewise some letters in my favour) — wherein I requested an appointment in the Federal Service — for some reason I did not obtain one — I see it is determin'd by Congress to raise some more Troops — I Still wish for an appointment — if you have a vacancy which you think I shall be Trusted by from the letters you have receiv'd and from those which General Jackson will inclose to you with this in my favour, I shall be compell'd to assure myself that neither you — or them may be disappointed — I have the honor to be with the greatest respect & your most Obedient and very Humble Serv^t John Patten
