The Hon ble The Sec of War Phil^y May 17^th 1794 Sir, In conversation with you this morning I proposed exchanging Bank notes for Specie, for use of the Department at the West[ern], to amount of 13000 Dollars, which I have arrang'd with the Cashier of the Bank, but on perusing the communications from General Wayne, & the Dep. Q M^r General, I finding that a number of Cavalry horses, have been required not included in, my estimate, I that the number of Stud horses, added for immediate use, exceed the number mentioned in the present Statement and in order to prevent the inconveniency of advancing the first dollar on the Session, which may be immediately wanted, I now request that the Sum of 13000 Dollars Specie may be placed in the hands of M^r Hodgden on Account from any requisition for the present General, also that [146] that I may receive it before I descend the Ohio, and that he may be enable to forward on to me at Fort Washington, or Head Quarters the balance of that requisition, upon his own Statements with the additional Sum of 1500, for the purchase of, 19 Cavalry Horses, being the least number demanded by the Commanding Officer of Dragoons to complete his Corps.
