Fort Fidius
18th April 1792
Sir
Yesterday I received a letter from the Secretary of War dated the 22d of February and I am not a little disappointed that I did not receive one from you — I am extremely anxious to hear whether you think receipts the rolls and vouchers I have transmitted to you.
On the 1st of October I forwarded the receipt of Mr Sevier, paymaster of the Militia, for the amount of the militia rolls I brought out with — On the 1st of December I sent the muster and payrolls for the regular troops to the 30th of June last — On the 18th of the same month I transmitted the rolls for July & August of this garrison, for the Field & Staff from the 1st November 1792 to the 31st of August 1793 and for the garrison of Fort Marbury from the 1st July to the 31st October — And on the 13th of January the muster & payrolls of this garrison for the months of September & October — In the three last mentioned letters I enclosed statements of the monies I had disbursed I also made several enquiries relative to the execution of my duty as paymaster, which I should be obliged to you to answer.
Mr Dalol whom I informed you had gone down the country to pay the troops at the lower posts has not yet returned, as I furnished with the rolls of those garrisons.
Mr Sealy has transmitted to me the pay rolls which have been directed yet, and I have account current — the rolls I relate to you from in order that they may be passed to his credit enclosed is a copy of his account current.
I have submitted to the Secretary of War, by this post, an estimate of the pay, subsistence & forage due to the troops in this country up to the first of this month — I beg you will look at your parts of it as our men be ordered us from a paymaster, and that you would, at the same time remember Mr Whitney's and our army things —
Have with great esteem
Sir
your most obedient
humble Servant
