John Stohn apply at the War Office not returned [undecipherable] and.] Know all Men, by these Presents, That John Stohn of Reading in the County of Berks late a Captain in the 5^th Pennsylvania Regiment Commanded by Col^o. Hayes in the service of the United States of America, have, and do hereby make, constitute and appoint Alexander Power of the City of Philadelphia [undecipherable] my true and lawful Attorney for me and in my name and behalf, to ask, demand, and by all lawful ways and means to recover and receive of and from the United States and the State of Pennsylvania respectively, or from whomsoever it doth, shall or may in anywise concern, all and singular the Lands, Pay Arrearages and Depreciation of Pay, and other Claims and Demands whatsoever due and owing for and in consequence of services as aforesaid, and upon receipt of the whole or any part thereof, in due form of Law, to execute and deliver requisite and sufficient Receipts, Releaes and Acquittances for the same, with power also an Attorney or Attornies under him for the purpose aforesaid, to make and substitute, and to do and execute all lawful acts requisite for effecting the premises; as fully and effectually to all intents and purposes as I might or could do by being personally present, and to have done the same, hereby ratifying and confirming all that my said Attorney or his substitute or substitutes shall do therein by virtue hereof.
