[F D R. O May 2. 1794]
Sir
In the Estimate N° 1 which accompanied your letter of the 12. Ult° received at this Office yesterday there are a number of articles of which Standard Samples, or Patterns will be necessary — I have now the honor to request that you will direct their transmission, or that they may be pointed out as expeditiously as may be convenient. The Articles contemplated are smooth muskets, Bayonets, Rifled muskets, Horsemens Pistols, Knap Sacks, Cartlidge boxes unless that in [undecipherable] case this is to be a standard pattern for the whole 10,000 Soldiers Tents, Horsemens Tents for company Officers, Marquees for General Officers, & Beals Haversacks & field carriages for them.
It is represented by the Agent for purchases that a great expence for the storage of Gunpowder is incurred upon the present plan, and that the Magazine is so full as to render it difficult if not impossible to turn the casks as frequently as is necessary to prevent the [undecipherable] of the grains. The Secretary of the treasury is of opinion that it will be necessary for him to receive a descriptive Note of the new Objects to be attended to by the Treasury Agent in regard to the works at Fort Mifflin.
I have the honor to be with great respect, Sir
Your most Obedt Servant
