War Department, April 26 1794 Sir Your letter of the 18th inst, to the Secretary of War, has been received, and the enclosures. I beg leave to inform you that a hundred of recruits are preparing to march for Pittsburg, in order to defend the River for Fort Washington– Ensign McClean marched this morning from the city with about forty men. He will take on the recruits at Carlisle – A Captain and forty men we ordered from West Point, and to this detachment will be added about twenty on their arrival at New Brunswick– The recruits in Virginia, say thirty, will also be ordered to Pittsburg under Captain Heth or some other officer I give you this notice that you may be prepared to receive, and embark them – I am, Sir, with sincere esteem, Your most obedt.
