I entered the Service [undecipherable] of August 1792 as a Volunteer & did duty [undecipherable] till the [undecipherable] of April 1793 when an Appointment came out at General Orders at Legionville in Place of Ensign [undecipherable] Promoted, As I was eight months & four days in [undecipherable: duty] before I was [undecipherable: appointed] I received no compensation for my Service I humbly conceive [undecipherable] one these I ought to take rank from Mr [undecipherable] Promotion, I refer you to Coll [undecipherable: Butler] who is now in the City to [undecipherable: confirm] the [undecipherable: truth] of what I [undecipherable: advance] upon my being [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] was advanced three months pay by order of the Commander in Chief
