I have recd your letter of the 17th Instt with the Invoice &Stubs &pay Rolls, inclosed, which I shall examine as soon as possible — I am not authorized to Sanction any payments to the troops, but Such as are made on filed pay rolls — an arrangement for paying the detachments at the other posts of this Should have been made by the Paymaster in conjunction with the Commandant of the troops however to remedy this omission I am willing to go as far as I possibly can consistently with the regulations of the department in order to effect the payment of those troops & I Shall take it into consideration immediately to remit the arrears you have estimated — I am with respect
