Sir
I have received your letter of the
19th Inst. with the several Muster and pay
rolls included which I shall examine as soon
as possible.
I am not authorized to sanction
any payments to the troops but such as are made
on settled pay rolls. An arrangement for paying
the detachment at the upper parts of the Ohio,
should have been made by the paymaster in
conjunction with the Commander in Chief of the
troops, however to remedy this omission I am
willing to go as far as I properly can consistent
