Sir
Mr McPherson one of the exe-
cutors to the estate of General Butler has called
on me for the amount of stoppages which I
made from his commutation. This I have re-
fused granting untill the four Months pay of
1799 is accounted for —
In examining the Books of the
late pay office I do not find that General
Butler in yourself is charged with this mo-
ney, I am therefore under the necessity of ap-
pealing to you for information requesting
you will give me the particulars of the tran-
saction and let me know who last received
the moneys — this you will do immediately as
Mr McPherson is anxious to close the business,
as well as
Yours Sincerely
Joseph Howell
