Sir
Mr McPherson one of the executors to the estate of General Butler has called on me for the ammount of stoppages which I made from his commutation. This I have refused granting untill the four Months pay of 1799 is accounted for —
In examining the Books of the late pay office I do not find that General Butler in yourself is charged with this money, I am therefore under the necessity of appealing to you for information requesting you will give me the particulars of the transaction and let me know who last received the money — this you will do immediately as Mr McPherson is anxious to close the business, as well as
Yours Sincerely
Joseph Howell
