Wilmington Delaware State January 8 1794 Sir After much pains & Trouble it seems necessary for me to acquaint you with the following Subject, and at the same time Humbly Crave your attention there to — Sir. I Served almost eight years in the Second Jersey Regiment, 6 years as a Sargeant, was Honoured with the Badge of Merit 6 years & I got my Discharge in the year 1782. I [undecipherable] my Notes. I belonged to Capt Hand's Company, I have never had any Depreciation money, nor the Back Arreages [undecipherable] to the Soldiers. I sent to M^r Mott now Treasurer of New Jersey concerning the above, be Sir, I am [undecipherable] that my Depreciation [undecipherable] allow'd to [undecipherable], Paymaster of the Second Jersey Regiment, by the [undecipherable] Treasurer of [sd?] State. They also say that they were Delivered to Samuel [undecipherable: Handay?] my Capt. I have never given either of them the least authority to receive them. M^r Mott thinks that there must have been two of my name belonging to that Riegiment. And the Paymaster & my Capt have each of them apparently [undecipherable] my Notes for the Depreciation above. But when informed of the certainty he will find that their were none of that name belonging to that Core beside me — M^r Mott also sent me word that if I Should send the above to you, I might be more fully informed of the Particulars, and how to proceed.
