Pittsburg 16th Decemr 1793 Sir, I have received your letter of the 21st inst together with several others for the commander in chief & officers of the army which shall be sent forward by the first Boat that decends the River at Present the navigation is obstructed by ice but as the River is high a few moderate days (which we have now a Prospect of) may again render it safely navigable. Capt. Cook is not yet arrived, but expected in a few Days, Boats are provided to carry his Detachment on their arrival, should the Weather be favourable should it be otherwise, Barracks are prepared for their accommodation. The Buildings at Wheeling consists of a Block House, Store House & Barracks, the Block House Twenty two feet by Twenty two feet, Two Storeys high, in the upper Storey, a Six Pounder is mounted; the lower Storey may be used as a Store House, the Store House is Thirty two feet by Twenty two feet, two Storeys High, the Barracks are one Storey high consists of five Rooms, four Rooms fifteen feet square, and one Room fifteen feet by Twelve, the whole is enclosed with a Stockade.
