You will recieve herewith enclosed a Publication by Mr Genet denying his having declared that he wd appeal from Mr. President to the People - a publication by us that we would shortly proceed to state the Evidence and circumstances relative to that [undecipherable], and also our massivorful address to the people containing such statemt_ we think it more more expedient than that it should be printed here without it as well as more delicate with Respect to him, that it sh. be accompanied by your Certificate, & Be pleased therefor to subjoin one to it, under your signature, and then cause it to be printed without delay in one of your Papers, & send us a correct copy of the whole, to the End Be it may instantly or its arrival be published here.

Every observation that we could make on the subject will [undecipherable] to you, and therefore we will not lose time in enumerating the considerations, (relative to the public, yourselves and us) which call for descion and [undecipherable] and is ion [undecipherable] to the Property & necessity of these measure.

Letter from John Jay to Alexander Hamilton. Asks that Hamilton and Knox have a certificate concerning Genet's statement printed in the Philadelphia papers. As soon as Jay and King receive it, they will republish Hamilton and Knox's statement with one of their own. Genet denies that he would appeal over the President to the people.
