Sir
I have Received your favor of the 14th Instant, I am apprehensive that the Detachment, you mention will come too late to Descend the Ohio, and shall therefore make provisions for their Wintering at Pittsburgh, however Boats for their Transportation shall not be neglected. A light Boat shall be purchased for the purpose of carrying the dispatches, but as Lieut Whistlers Detachment had set off before Your Orders for their destination had Arrived, Boatmen must be hired, as Capt Crawford has not any Men fit for the purpose.
The letters for Governors Blount & Shelby shall be forwarded by the Ohio Packet Boat, which is preparing to set off for Fort Washington. I have herewith Inclosed copies of [undecipherable] in Charge of [undecipherable] & Whittle an Alfred [undecipherable] for Detachment also Inclosed up to the 1st Instant. my Vouchers shall be sent to the Comptroller by [undecipherable] Cap, she set off for Philadelphia on Monday next.
It appears that the whole of the Cloathing for this Year is gone forward, Except in Package No 516 of the Sub Legion, which only Arrived Yesterday, and is going forward in Charge of Maj Wanton of the Cavalry, who is on his way to Head Quarters.
By Accts from Kentucky it appears that [undecipherable] was on the 6th of October, six Miles advanced of Fort Jefferson and that a small party Scouting either forage a Commissary Store, commanded by Lieut Penny, had been attacked Lieut Penny Killed and the party defeated.
By Accounts this moment Arrived via of Niagara and therefore, it appears that our Army has had a General Engagement with the Enemy, and has Obtained a Complete Victory.
