Pittsburgh Novr 5 1793
Sir,
I have three trunks, a barrel & 4 bails, which contain my baggage, in posession of John De Hamilton Esquire of Philadelphia. I was ordered by the Secy of war from New Hampshire to Philadelphia to settle my recruiting accounts, and Joim the army under the Command of Major General Wayne. On the receipt of this order I sent my baggage to that place with full assurance of meeting it there; before this could take place the Secy Office was Shut & he had left the city, & the Contagious disorder rendered it unsafe for me to go there; I therefore thought it my duty to continue my Journey to Pittsburgh. Thus I have given you a history of the business, that you might the better Judge whether you
in behalf of the [undecipherable], with propriety could defray the expence or any part there in transporting my baggage, from Philadelphia to this place. Should you think proper to comply with my request I wish it might be sent forwarded the first opportunity (and by a safe waggoner) as I am in great want thereof. Mr Dewees the bearer will be so polite as to direct where the baggage may be found at —
I am
with respect & esteem Sir
your humble Servant.
