Pittsburgh 8th November 1793 —
Sir.
Your favor of the 25th Ultimo is just come to hand, Inclosing five thousand Dollars, a very seasonable Supply, as it Supercedes a Necessity of drawing on You as I had proposed.
Yesterday a Boat arrived from Fort Washington, which Brought Letters as late as the 5th Ultimo, by which it appears the Army moved forward on the 7th Ultimo, in Excellent Order & high Spirits, and had a large Body of the Militia of Kentucky, [was?] to follow in a few days, a Copy of the [undecipherable] General's letter of 6th is Inclosed — by this Boat I have Received several Packets for the Secretary of War, which are Sent by this Post, Some other Packs, [strikethrough: for the Secretary —] addressed to Oliver Wolcott Esqr. together with my Returns & Accts shall be Sent by next Post, the whole being too Bulky for one Sheet —
I have Inclosed a Copy of a Report of a Board of Officers, appointed by the commander in chief, to Inspect a Part of the Cavalry Cloathing [undecipherable: probable reading "that"] appeared damaged. It is the Opinion of the [undecipherable] Muster [Master] General that the Waggoner is made accountable for the damages, the Packages appeared in Good Order when Received here, but might have been Injured by Rain Notwithstanding.
It appears that Jacob Hazleman, who was Sent Express for the Army, Died at Fort Washington, a few days after his Arrival at Head Quarters — he has left a Horse and Saddle which he told me was his own property, what is to be done with them.
I am Sir
Your Most Obedt
Hume Servt
