[undecipherable] [rode?] behind [undecipherable] with his men consisting of 26 [undecipherable] except One private Rowland was left on the Ground, Michaels died next day of his wound On the 17^th a party of 90 men under Command of [Lt?] Lorey and one Boyer, escorting a number of Waggons loaded with Corn & provision were defeated [undecipherable] advance of St Clair both the Officers, One Sergeant, One Corporal, One Drummer & 11 privates were found dead on the Ground. The Indians took off upwards of 60 Horses and [killed?] 9 of the Waggons & loading was left & brought in next day, having sustained very little damage. Since my last I have drawn on you on the 3^rd Inst from [undecipherable] [undecipherable] on order 1,000 Dollars 7^th [undecipherable] [Lt.?] [Heron?] on order 1669 21^st from [Levi?] Munsell 1330 3,963 Dol. In consequence of orders received this day from the Commander in Chief I am obliged to send [McCalla?] into Kentucky to purchase 250 Horses & 40 yoke of Oxen for the purpose of Assisting the Contractors in transporting provisions, and have directed him to draw bills on you to amount of $12,000 dollars, which you will please to pay. General Scott has joined us here with about 900 Volunteers.
