Treasury Department August 26th 1793
Sir
An inquiry was made at the Treasury from Your office, whether a Sum of money had been placed in the hands of James Seagrove of St Marys, as Agent to the Creek nation, in consequence of Your letter of the 1st of September 1792.
It appears on examination that the [strikethrough: object was at the time in contemplation,] the Collector of Savannah [strikethrough: having been] notified from this office on the 8th of September that Mr Seagrove would probably be authorised to draw upon him for about four thou[sand] Dollars; [strikethrough: But this an authorization for the drpd] [undecipherable] there[after,] this object appears to have been given up; nor is the War Department [undecipherable] does not appear [undecipherable] that Mr Seagrove charged with any remittance or payment for the period in question, except for 900 Dollars paid on the 4th of December 1792 by warrant No 2278, for a bill drawn in favour of Joseph Antony & Son.
This is the view in which the business stands at the Treasury.
I have the honor to be
Sir your obedient Servant
