[the Secretary at war Enlock] Treasury Department August 26^th 1793 Sir An inquiry was made at the Treasury from Your office, whether a Sum of money had been placed in the hands of James Seagrove of St Marys, as Agent to the Creek nation, in consequence of Your letter of the 1^st of September 1792. It appears on examination that the [strikethrough: object was at the time in contemplation,] the Collector of Savannah [strikethrough: having been] notified from this office on the 8^th of September that M^r Seagrove would probably be authorised to draw upon him for about four thou[sand] Dollars; [strikethrough: But this an authorization for the drpd] [undecipherable] there[after,] this object appears to have been given up; nor is the War Department [undecipherable] does not appear [undecipherable] that M^r Seagrove charged with any remittance or payment for the period in question, except for 900 Dollars paid on the 4^th of December 1792 by warrant N^o 2278, for a bill drawn in favour of Joseph Antony & Son.
